In Australia, divorce, parenting and financial issues are dealt with separately.   You don’t need to be divorced before your parenting and financial dispute can be resolved.

From our initial discussions we’ll develop a priority list of topics to provide you legal advice on, and if needed we’ll hook you up with support services that can help you emotionally and financially during this period of distress.

 

If you wish to be assessed for eligibility for Legal Aid NSW funding, bring along your three most recent months of bank statements, your most recent Centrelink Income Statement and if you are working your three most recent payslips.  If you are not eligible for Legal Aid NSW funding, we’ll also discuss the costs that will be involved to provide you legal services for specific circumstances.

 

Finally, Coffs Law Co. will keep all your conversations with us confidential unless you authorise us otherwise.  Coffs Law Co. is a safe space without judgement, for us to work together to ensure your understanding and empowerment in family law matters.

 

WILLS & ESTATES

 

Death is the only certainty in life.  It’s important to prepare for.

 

Preparation is key to ensure your wishes are honoured. Who do you want looking after your children, or your pets? Who do you want to get Aunty Marjorie’s 1368 Ming Dynasty vase that’s been in the family forever? Who is going to make sure your loved one receive what you want to leave to them? These are the questions we will help you with in drafting your Will to ensure your wishes are enacted when the inevitable happens.

 

It’s also a fact of life that death often brings out the money hungry family and friends.  If your prepare in advance this can save or at least minimise your preferred loved ones from the distress of scrupulous family and friends. Coffs Law Co can provide you advice on how to ensure such claims can be defeated or minimised when undertaking estate planning.

 

Legal Aid NSW

 

Coffs Law Co. chooses to provide quality legal services via minimal funding from Legal Aid NSW as a service to the community.  This does not mean Coffs Law Co. will provide our Legal Aid NSW clients with a lesser service, rather the assistance provides the essential legal services required to reasonably resolve your legal matter.

 

 

 

Legal Aid NSW have approved all solicitors working at Coffs Law Co. to provide family law services, where eligible, to clients involved in parenting disputes and property disputes subject to Legal Aid NSW policies.

 

 

 

At your initial appointment, Coffs Law Co. will work out if you qualify for funding from Legal Aid NSW to address your family law disputes.  To assist us with that assessment we require the following documentation at your initial appointment:-

 

 

 

Your must recent Centrelink Income Statement and (if you are working) your three most recent payslips; AND

Your three most recent months of bank statements for all your savings accounts.

 

 

The above documentation is required to process any application for Legal Aid NSW as it is means tested.  This means Legal Aid NSW will not provide funding to people who, in Legal Aid NSW’s opinion, can afford to engage a lawyer privately.  Essentially if you earn too much money or have too much money – the tax payer is going to pick up your legal bill.  Even if you are granted funding by Legal Aid NSW, you are required in most circumstances, to make a financial contribution to your legal fees based on your individual financial situation.

 

CONVEYANCING - BUYING OR SELLING PROPERTY

 

It’s an exciting time buying a property, either a house or unit, but it can also be stressful.  For most people it’s the biggest purchase of their lives, you don’t want to get ripped off!  Coffs Law Co. are here to ensure that doesn’t happen.

 

 

 

When you first start looking for a property to buy, Coffs Law Co. recommend you meet with us, so we can explain the purchase process.  We’ll help you know what to do, what reports you ought to get, and how to make “an offer they can’t refuse”.

 

 

 

Once you’ve had your offer accepted we provide you independent legal advice on the contract, explaining it in everyday language so you know what you are getting into.
